Supervisory group: STEP (Stanford)
Masters & credentials here i come…
and STEP will be over. teaching + going through a teacher education program + working towards my masters in one year has been the most difficult thing i have ever done in my life. nothing can top it.
I have experienced the most enjoyable and the most painful experiences in my life, in the past 10 months. yes it has only been 10 months. I’ve been vulnerable, I’ve been critiqued a lot, let’s be real, it has been pretty painful. Painful as you try to please your instructors, the teacher you work with, the school that you teach in, the directors/higher ups that critique your teaching and philosophy. And the almost 300 pages of writing, single space I must add, and hundreds of hours of work without much rest and without much social life redefines brutality in academics. but i’m resilient and i want to finish strong. so i’m closing this post with my goals for the last two months of STEP. i can see the light at the end of the tunnel but i got to go through and endure the most powerful storm in these last two months of the program.
it has been a while since i posted but i want to keep myself accountable with these goals:
+ finish strong: do well with PACT, coursework, and teaching at an unnamed urban high school, 2 mothereffin months left! i usually don’t curse but my choice of words reflects how miserable i feel right now
+ find a job in the Bay Area by August
+ maintain and develop healthy relationships with people
yes, taking care of myself isn’t really a priority right now…
Takin’ a break from paperin’. Effin grad school, there’s a project/paper due every week. They told us to “stay away from perfection, just get it done.” I’ll attempt to do this tonight so I can rest tomorrow in an effort to stay sane and healthy in this program.
Thank you Stanford for making me admit that I need to maintain my mental/emotional/spiritual/physical health from the very first week of class. Hello Vaden and Arillaga!
Here are some pics from the SF Giants Game we went to last night with the rest of the STEPpies, a very endearing yet irritating term.
More deep thoughts later. I need to double check on confidentiality since I’m working in a middle school.
